Masala oats

Masala (spicy) oat is another way one can have oats other than oats porridge or oats smoothie.

Ingredients for 2 bowls:-

  • a handful of rolled oats
  • a glass of water
  • 2TB coconut oil
  • 1tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 chopped shallots or a small onion
  • 1tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4tsp turmeric
  • 1/2tsp chili powder
  • 1 chopped red/green chili
  • 7/8 curry leaves
  • 2TB green peas
  • coriander leaves
  • 1/2tsp Garam masala
  • 1/4tsp dried mango powder (Amchoor)
  • salt as per the taste

Process:-

  1. Wash and soak rolled oats overnight in the water.
  2. Drain the water and wash the oats the next day morning.
  3. Add oil to a small container and heat it on a low flame.
  4. For tempering, start with mustard seeds, and when they crackle and add other stuff (chopped shallots, cumin, turmeric, chili powder, chili, curry leaves).
  5. After a minute, add green peas with 1/3 glass of water.
  6. Add the soaked and drained oats.
  7. Once the green peas are cooked, add the rest of the ingredients (coriander leaves, Garam Masala, tsp dried mango powder, salt)
  8. Check if little water is needed to keep the mixture moist.
  9. Switch off the flame and cover Masala oats for 3-4 minutes.
