Summer care tips for skin

Summer is on its way. If you do not pay attention to your skin, this summer will leave its mark on your face for sure.

Here are some of the tips for your face which would help you to combat or avoid sunburn, inflammation, redness, and darkness caused by sun rays during summer.

Drink water

  • Keep your skin hydrated by drinking enough water. A water bottle would be your best companion during the heat.

Apply sunscreen

  • 15 minutes before going out, apply sunscreen/sunblock lotion on your face so that your face can absorb the same properly.
  • This will last for 2/3 hours. You need to reapply it if you are in the sun for a longer time.
  • SPF content is mentioned on the bottle/tube which should be a minimum of 30.
  • You can mix a little bit of moisturizer in sunscreen cream to smoothen it and after applying the sunscreen, dab some loose powder or compact with a sponge or a brush so that sunscreen would not melt easily in the sun.
  • You can also apply sunscreen lotion on other parts of your body such as the neck, ears, hands, fingers, and feet if they are exposed to the sun.

Apply Aloe vera Gel

  • If your skin is damaged due to sun rays, you can apply aloe vera gel. This will reduce itchiness, inflammation, rashes, or sunburns. You can apply the gel before cooking as well.
  • Very few brands contain natural aloe vera pulp. So be careful. Aloe vera gel by Forever Living gave me good results.

Icing the face

  • Gently rub ice cubes all over your face if your skin suffers from the heat or to add a natural glow to it.
  • Face icing is a ritual for many celebrities after getting up in the morning to reduce puffiness of the face or eyes and to reduce dark circles. They also do it before applying makeup to close the skin pores.
  • You can also mix mint leaves or rose petals or cucumber slices while making the cubes. This will give you an added cooling effect.
  • In case you don’t want to apply the ice directly to your face, you can cover the cubes in a cotton cloth and massage your face.

Apply Cucumber juice

  • Remove the skin of the cucumber and make juice in a blender. Apply the same on the skin to remove dark patches, tans. Keep it for half an hour to smoothen the skin.

Eat Fruits with vitamins A, C

  • Eat seasonal fruits enriched with vitamins A and C such as mango, papaya, cantaloupe, and other citrus fruits to keep your skin hydrated and nourished during summer.

Cover the face with a cotton scarf

  • There is a way to roll a scarf on your face to cover it fully. This will protect your skin in high temperatures from dirt and burns especially when you are traveling a long distance.

Hair Hygiene

  • It is better to cover your head also with a cap or a cotton scarf, not to accumulate dirt and protect the scalp from harmful sun rays.
  • You may need to wash your hair more often if the scalp gets sweaty. Make sure you use a proper shampoo and a conditioner that would not make your hair too dry as some level of moisture is required for healthy hair.
  • You can also oil your hair and wash it after a few hours to keep them moist.

Wear sunglasses

  • The area around the eyes is very delicate. So invest money in good quality of a sunglass pair.

Moisturise lips

  • Lips get dehydrated quickly during summer. So apply lip gel or a lip balm.
