Sparrow House

Many years ago, during the monsoon, I saw a tiny sparrow out of my bedroom window. It was raining heavily and there she was, shivering in the rain, sleeping on a very small nail, by adjusting its body. I suddenly rushed to my dad and told him to fix the wooden sparrow house for the bird on the next day. He agreed immediately. And on a very next day, we fixed a house with 2 partitions and 3 separate rooms for the tweety.

We had to wait for many days for the bird to move to the house. Since then many generations have born, brought up, stayed and left the house. Many years later, again I noticed the search of the house by a sparrow. By then, I had moved to another apartment. It was a male bird who came flying straight into my living room, without bothering about the ceiling fan which was moving in full speed, it flew to check if there was space behind the photo frame of goddess Laxmi, hanging on the wall.

I immediately understood his desperate effort to find a house. I called my brother (who was showing the signs of developing a keen interest in carpentry skills) and told him to make a wooden house on an urgent basis. He delivered the product within two days. We hung it on a wall out of the window. I was happy and so the sparrow couple. This time within two days they started to gather sticks, dried grass, and feathers to build a nest in the house and soon delivered 3 cute little sparrows one by one in a span of 3 months. My joy knew no boundaries. I was surprised to see the mother doing hundreds of rounds in a day to catch grasshoppers for the baby.

In the hustle and bustle of this metro, we did not realize when these small sparrows have disappeared which were equal in the number of crows and pigeons. I must tell you from my experience that the ‘Sparrow house’ is an excellent gift item which can be given to anyone from any age group. It gives immense pleasure to the host and provides shelter to the little ones.

In case your carpentry skills are not so good, you can order the sparrow house by clicking the below link:

I am also giving the link of the feeder for birds which many people hang out of the window these days.

Sparrow likes to eat pearl millet and pigeons eat wheat. We get small packets of these grains in the grocery stores. In addition to this, if one has a big balcony, keeping a bowl/pot of water for birds is a good idea.
