Masala Doodh

Masala Doodh is a term used in Hindi/Marathi language which means milk with blended spices and dry fruits. Masala Doodh is prepared on auspicious occasions like Kojagiri Pournima (Full moon day in Sharad season) and also on Haldi-Kunku ceremony during the Sankranti festival in January.

On the occasion of Kojagiri Pournima/ Sharad Pournima, the goddess Laxmi and the lord Indra are worshipped. Masala doodh is prepared and kept under the moonlight and people play various games and celebrate the night together. This milk is later consumed by all.

Let us see the recipe of Masala Doodh for 2 people

Ingredients:

1/2 liter milk

7 almonds

10 charoli

5 raisins

4 grated pistachios

pinch of turmeric

pinch of dry ginger/ sunth powder (in Hindi/Marathi)

7-8 saffron shreds

2 tablespoons sugar

5 cardamoms

1/2 nutmeg

Process:

Soak 7 almonds in water for about 4 hours.

Remove the almonds’ skin and blend them along with 4 pistachios and water in a blender.

Heat the milk on a slow flame.

After 5 minutes, add blended almonds and pistachios, 10 charoli.

Also add a pinch of turmeric, sunth powder, and 7-8 saffron shreds.

Add 2 tablespoons of sugar.

Make the powder of 5 cardamoms and 1/2 nutmeg.

Keep stirring the milk with a spoon even if it comes to boil.

After 2-3 boils, add cardamom nutmeg powder, 5 raisins and let the milk settle.

Serve it hot or cold as per your preference.
