Shivthar Ghal, Gandharpale Caves, Raigad Fort, Palicha Ganpati

Day 1

  • Left Mumbai at 6 am for Shivthar Ghal via the Mumbai-Goa Highway route.
  • Stopped at Shri Datta Snacks Corner at Panvel for breakfast.
  • Reached Shivthar Ghal at 1 pm. (‘Dasbodh’, Advaita Vedanta spiritual text was orally narrated by Saint Samarth Ramdas Swami in these caves)
Shivthar Ghal Caves
  • The best season to visit Ghal is during monsoon from July-September as it’s greener and has a few lively waterfalls.
  • Lunch timings at Shivthar Ghal are from 12-1 pm; they serve Khichadi as Prasad.
  • Checked in to PG Regency Resort at 3 pm.
  • One can visit the Gandharpale Caves in the evening. (a group of 30 Buddhist caves)

Day 2

  • Checked out at the hotel at 6 am.
  • Reached Raigad fort basement at 6:30 am. (This fort was the capital of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.)
  • Ropeway waiting time is around 2/3 hours on weekends.
  • Ropeway timings are from 8 am to 5 pm.
Ropeway to Raigad Fort
  • Visited the Raigad fort from 9 am-12 pm; we hired a guide to see a few points on the fort.
  • Lunch (Pithle Bhakri) at Sunita’s home on the fort.
  • Back to the basement by ropeway at 2 pm.
  • Started for Mahadacha Ganpati at Pali via Pachad Road.
  • Reached the temple of Lord Ganesha at 4 pm. (This is one of the Ashta Vinayaka temples.)
  • At 6 pm we began our journey to Mumbai via the Khopoli route.
  • Back to Mumbai at 10 pm.
